The CELPIP-General Test provides Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and other users with an accurate measurement of English language proficiency in common usage situations.

The CELPIP-General Test is a complete English language testing program that assesses general levels of functional competency. The test consists of the following components:

  • Listening (47-55 minutes)
  • Reading (55-60 minutes)
  • Writing (53-60 minutes)
  • Speaking (15-20 minutes)
Open Work Permit Canada

Total test time: About 3 hours

The format and scoring of the test are referenced to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

What groups can use the CELPIP-General Test Results?

  • IRCC requiring proof of English proficiency of applicants for immigration to Canada
  • Canadian immigration associations and consultants advising applicants for immigration to Canada on how to fulfill language requirements
  • professional associations and employers requiring proof of English language proficiency of their members and prospective employees
